Spider veins are smaller, non-bulging veins that appear close to the skin's surface, often forming fine, red, blue, or purple lines. Varicose veins, by contrast, are enlarged veins that no longer function efficiently, causing blood to pool and create visible bulging.
Please note: We currently treat only spider veins, not varicose veins.
Sclerotherapy is a safe, highly effective, and minimally invasive procedure used to treat spider veins. During treatment, a fine needle is used to inject a medical solution directly into the affected vein. This causes the vein to gently collapse and seal, allowing blood to naturally reroute through healthier vessels. Over the following weeks, the treated vein is reabsorbed by the body and fades from view.
Most patients require 1–3 sessions for optimal results. Each treatment typically takes about 30 minutes, and most people are able to resume normal daily activities right away. Visible improvement is usually seen within 2–4 weeks.
Compression therapy is an important part of maintaining your results and preventing the recurrence of spider veins. We can help you choose the appropriate compression garment and advise on how long to wear it after treatment for the best outcome.
Most patients describe minimal discomfort, often comparing the sensation to a small mosquito bite. Temporary side effects may include:
These effects are typically short-lived and resolve within a few days.
Spider vein treatment is not covered by OHIP.

Detailed pre- and post-treatment instructions will be provided during your appointment to ensure a smooth recovery and the best possible results.
