Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers? How do they work?

Young skin appears smooth, full, and elastic because it naturally contains high levels of hyaluronic acid (HA) — a molecule that helps the skin retain moisture and volume. As we age, HA production gradually decreases, leading to dryness, thinning, and fine lines.

Dermal fillers are a long-lasting (though not permanent) form of HA that mimic this naturally occurring substance. When injected beneath the surface of the skin, the gel restores lost volume, smooths lines, and enhances facial contours for a refreshed, rejuvenated look.

What are fillers used for? What areas can be treated?

Dr. Radke uses premium hyaluronic acid fillers, including Juvéderm® and Belotero®, to address volume loss and enhance facial balance. These products are formulated for specific areas of the face - for example, smoothing fine lines, defining lips, or restoring cheek volume. The ideal product and approach are customized for each patient and treatment area.

Are dermal fillers permanent? How long do they last?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are not permanent, as it naturally breaks down over time. Results are visible immediately, with full effect typically achieved within two weeks.

The longevity of results varies by product type, treatment area, and individual factors such as age, metabolism, skin structure, and lifestyle. In general, results last 6 to 18 months, with about 50–80% of the effect remaining at six months. Over time, the filler gradually dissolves, and your skin will return to its natural state.

If desired, treatments can be safely repeated to maintain or enhance your results. Should removal be necessary, a medication called hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve the filler.

What is involved in a treatment session? Does it hurt?

A typical filler treatment takes 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the area treated and the number of syringes used. Results are visible right away and continue to improve over the following days.

Most patients describe the procedure as very tolerable. Before your treatment, Dr. Radke applies a medical-grade numbing cream to ensure comfort. In addition, both Juvéderm® and Belotero® contain a mild anesthetic (lidocaine) for an even more comfortable experience. Most people can resume their usual activities immediately afterward.

What are the possible side effects?

Everyone’s response to filler treatment is unique. Factors such as skin type, injection site, and technique can influence your experience. This is why choosing an experienced, highly skilled injector is essential for both safety and results.

Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site are the most common side effects and typically resolve within a few days. For this reason, we recommend avoiding filler treatments within 14 days of an important event (including air travel).

Dermal fillers are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Detailed information and aftercare guidance will be reviewed during your consultation.

How much does it cost?

Dr. Radke uses only the highest-quality HA fillers to ensure safe, natural-looking outcomes. Pricing is based on your personalized treatment plan. Many treatments can be achieved with 1–2 syringes, while more comprehensive enhancements may require additional product.

The cost ranges from $450–$550 per syringe, which includes the product, your consultation, the procedure itself, and a two-week follow-up appointment.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

It is best to avoid alcohol, Advil, aspirin or any other blood thinning medications before treatment to avoid minor bruising or bleeding. If you are unsure about a specific medication or whether it is safe to stop taking, be sure to check with our team who can advise you on how to proceed.

When you book an appointment with Dr Radke you will be provided with detailed instructions on preparing for your appointment.

What do I need to do after my treatment?

Immediately after treatment, you will be provided with ice packs to minimize swelling or bruising. To ensure optimal results, we recommend the following:

For the first 6 hours:

  • Keep the treated area clean and avoid applying makeup to reduce the risk of infection.

For the first 24 hours:

  • Avoid alcohol, Advil, aspirin, and strenuous physical activity.
  • Refrain from excessive rubbing or manipulation of the skin — the filler remains malleable during this time.

For the first 2 weeks:

  • Try to sleep on your back.
  • Avoid extreme heat or cold, as well as prolonged sun exposure.

Following these steps helps your filler integrate beautifully for smooth, natural-looking results.
